Setting the Tone

Mission & Vision Development: Working together with your board or commission, full-time team, and key stake holders, we will develop a mission & vision that not only conveys your agency's goals but does so in a way that your team can easily identify and carry out these goals in their day-to-day interactions within your community.

Creating Positive Organizational Culture: With a well-defined mission, Five Star Recreation will help your team prepare to execute your mission and carry out your vision through creation of positive culture within your department.  Using examples from some of the best organizations around the world, your team will come away with specific actions and attitudes to create the best experiences possible for your community.

Select, Don't Hire: With your culture defined, identifying the behavior and attitudes in an ideal candidate can make selection of the right person easy.  In addition to discussing and streamlining the interview process, we will create behavior-based interview questions that will allow you to build your culture through the selection process.

The Ultimate Question for Ultimate Results:  Change your way of thinking about surveys and how to use your results.  Using one simple question and a basic rating scale, learn how the Ultimate Question can provide ultimate results and how these results can be turned into instant action plans for your front line managers and teams.

It's Not All Bad on the Dark Side - What We Can Learn from Private Recreation: Recreation professionals sometimes sneer at the sales-driven world of private recreation, and those in private recreation occasionally look at parks and recreation as their distant (and somewhat homely) cousins. After a six-year hiatus from public recreation to work for a publicly-traded fitness company, it was clear that the two industries could learn a lot from one another. Take a journey with me as we explore how the lessons learned in the private fitness industry can make our programs stronger, help us position ourselves better in the community and guide us in creating the best experiences for our guests.

Team Building for Better Service: From Sardines to Shark Attack, take a chance to get your teams involved, invigorated and in touch with one another through a variety of team building activities.  These activities can be utilized during breaks or down time or implemented as part of your overall orientation and in-service programs.  Take a step-by-step journey through choosing, conducting and applying team building activites with your Lifeguards.  Participate in a variety of activities, and you’ll be yelling “Rabbid Nugget” before you leave!

Developing Your Frontline Team

The Golden Rule & Other Basics: Training frontline teams can entail everything from CPR to cleaning toilets, and we often assume they bring basic guest service skills with them on their first day.  Guess what: they do!  Learn how to use what your team already knows to help them navigate daily interaction with guests, handle uncomfortable conflicts, and create a WOW! experience that will keep people coming back for more!

Sales Skills For the Frontline Team: With decreasing budgets and increasing competition, connecting with facility guests and program participants is an easy way to create repeat business with a limited marketing budget.  But how do we teach our frontline team to make those connections, match needs to programs and up-sell?  Give your frontline team the skills they need to help drive program registration, increase returning customers generate revenue through daily customer contact.

Seasonal Team Training: Take your seasonal team trainings to the next level by introducing a Five Star Recreation element!  Customized specifically to meet your needs and the needs of your team, Five Star Recreation can build half- or full-day trainings to help embed cultural expectations, build team relationships, and create behaviors that will keep program participants coming back for more!

Lights, Camera, Action!  Award-Winning In-Service: Whether you have fifteen minutes or five hours, you can create in-services with impact.  Discuss ways to win over your aquatic team and keep them involved in in-services while reinforcing skills and teaching new ways to handle old situations.

Team Building, Too: You'll think Marshmallow Dodgeball is fun, but wait until you see what’s in store this next!  Use these new and exciting activities to connect with your team while helping them connect with each other.  Activities will be selected together with you to create tangible lessons in guest service and new ways bring your agency’s mission to life every day!
